DIABLO is a new stage play written by Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist Héctor Manchego (SISTER/Royal Court Writers' Group, Migration Matters Festival). It unfolds in a thought-provoking fictional future in Venezuela in 2032. The narrative revolves around Isachar, a former police officer recently granted amnesty by the emerging democratic government after serving 15 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a student during the tumultuous 2017 national protests. As Isachar returns to his hometown, the play delves into profound inquiries about accountability, the enduring impact of police brutality, and the delicate prospect of forgiveness amidst the turbulent backdrop of political upheaval.

DIABLO delves into the heart of Venezuela's enduring political and humanitarian crisis, drawing inspiration from the tradition of the Dancing Devils of Yare. Acknowledged as a vital component of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this age-old practice features individuals adorned in red attire and devil's masks engaging in rhythmic dance to the Santisimo Sacramento as a symbolic quest for forgiveness for their sins.
